Paul Kastrinakis, 46

LEE, Mass. —  Paul John Kastrinakis, 46, originally of Lee, Mass., passed away on February 7, 2019, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Annadale, Va., from a severe bacterial infection. Paul was surrounded by his family and friends at the time of his passing.

Born in Pittsfield on July 25, 1972, he was a son of John and Joyce Kastrinakis. Paul was a graduate of Lee High School. He graduated Westfield State University with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Anna Maria College with a Masters in Criminal Justice.

He married the former Catherine Anderson of Montreal, Canada, on November 1, 2014.

Paul was a retired Massachusetts State Police Trooper, where he served on the State Police Bomb Squad. The events of 9/11 compelled Paul to enlist in the U.S. Army. This single act defines Paul and he excelled as a soldier. He was a Green Beret, serving as a Special Forces Engineer in the 20th Special Forces Group; his deployments included Iraq and Afghanistan. Paul most recently supported the Department of Homeland Security as a cybersecurity exercise planner. He was highly decorated for his military service and well respected in his work by his peers.

Paul cared deeply for his wife and family, with whom he especially loved spending his time. His many interests included hiking, climbing, scuba diving, competitive shooting, reading, visiting museums, and fine art.

He leaves behind his wife, Catherine Kastrinakis of Pittsfield; his beloved children, Luc and Malcolm; his mother and father, Joyce and John Kastrinakis of Lenox; his brothers and their wives, Jason and Sabrina Kastrinakis of Pittsfield, Alex and Lynsey Kastrinakis of Hancock, and George and Sheila Kastrinakis of Lee; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral notice: Greek Orthodox funeral services for Paul J. Kastrinakis will be held Monday, February 18, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in Lenox. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to a scholarship fund for his children, Luc and Malcolm, in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
