Paul George Magnifico, 98

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Paul George Magnifico of North Adams, MA died on Thursday May 16, 2019, on his 98th birthday.

He was born in North Adams, MA, on May 16, 1921, son of Michael and Rose (Vigna) Magnifico. He attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1939.

Paul was last employed by Hunter Machine Co., where he worked for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. Prior to that, he worked at Boston & Maine Railroad for 17 years.

He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Paul enjoyed sports and played football and basketball for the St. Anthony Crusaders and later enjoyed playing softball. He was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics, New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Paul read many books about and studied the history of the American Civil War.

His wife was Josephine Maria (Romano) Magnifico, who died on June 2, 2014. They were married on April 14, 1951.

Survivors include one son, Robert Magnifico and his wife, Joan of Newtown, PA ; four daughters, Frances Naramore of Barre, VT, Maria Magnifico of Weymouth, MA, Diana Murphy and her husband, Kevi,  of Haverhill, MA and Nancy Magnifico of Pittsfield, MA; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Natalie Mazzuchi of North Adams; two brothers, Joseph Magnifico and his wife, Barbara and Orlando "Midge" Magnifico, both of North Adams; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister and one brother, Josephine "Kelly" Galipeau and John Magnifico.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Paul Magnifico will be celebrated Tuesday May 21, 2019, at 1:00 PM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521West Main St. North Adams, MA are Monday from 4-7 PM.
