Howard L. Chesbro, 81
CLARKSBURG, Mass. — Howard L. Chesbro, 81, passed away on the evening of Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Baystate Medical Center Springfield after a brief illness.
Howard was born on March 16, 1938, in Clarksburg and was a lifelong resident of that town, where he served as a town constable for several years. He was a longtime member of the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Company, where he last served as Fire Chief before retiring from service. He was owner of H. L. Chesbro Company Millwrights Machinery Riggers for over 25 years, where he was joined by his son Brian until Howard’s retirement.
Howard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was extremely proud of his three grandchildren. Howard was an avid supporter of his granddaughters, who played softball for both Hoosac Valley Hurricanes and Herkimer College Generals, and his grandson, who is a PFC in the Marine Corps Reserves and a member of the Stamford, VT, Volunteer Fire Department. He and his wife were also breeders for many years of Bichon Frise and were members of both the Bichon Frise Club of America and the Bichon Frise Club of Southern New England, where he served on several committees and also was a current member of the Board of Directors. He especially enjoyed motorhome travel to dog shows all over the country, where he successfully handled many of his own dogs to their championship.
Howard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen (Anderson); his daughter Lisa K. Puppolo and her husband Gary and their two daughters, Kali and Madi of Adams; son Brian H. Chesbro and his wife Denise and their son Benjamin of Clarksburg; his brother Carlyle C. Chesbro; and sister Lois Horton.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harry A. and Isabelle (Savage) Chesbro; his brother Harry P. Chesbro; and his sister, Marie Sherman Hibbard.
