Daniel Pero, 70

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Daniel John Pero, 70, of North Adams died on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at his home.

He was born on January 1, 1949, in Pittsfield, Mass., a son of the late Arthur & Cecelia (Magdalenski) Pero. Daniel graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Pittsfield and attended classes at BCC. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was employed at General Electric and at the Pittsfield Housing Authority for many years until his retirement.

Daniel was a trustee at the VFW in North Adams and a member of the Williamstown American Legion and a member of the Greylock Club. He also loved the New York Giants.

Daniel’s wife, Cheryl A. "Sherry" Smith Pero, died on February 27, 2010. They were married on October 10, 1975.

Daniel leaves his two daughters, Rebecca Joy Dodge and her husband Jeremy of Florida, Mass., and Jaycee Pero and her companion Jason Howland of North Adams; four brothers, Arthur Pero III of Westfield, James Pero of Dalton, John Pero of Windsor and Charles Pero of Pittsfield; and his grandchildren, Chloe Carrigan, Isabella and Danika Dodge, Mason Stred, and Remee Stred.

Daniel, aka, bad grandpa, was the light in his children and grandchildren's eyes. He was our foundation. A man that made everyone laugh, most called him one in a million. We lovingly deemed him our "son" for his playful behavior. Everyone that knew him, loved him. He was an enthusiast of all that made others happy. He had an underlying sense of humor and the most giving man there was. Some people think of movie stars as superheroes, yet he was ours. No matter what, you always had Pa to talk to, to get you out of a funk, but most importantly to believe in you. He enjoyed walks and rides with his two fur children, Petey and Sebastian. An avid Giant and Red Sox fan and loved to fish.

Pa is a legend of humanity, he gave more of himself than any other we know. We thank him for being the man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and every single particle that made him Pa. In life, you are not guaranteed to meet someone with intentions as good as his. We celebrate a legend that didn't judge, who gave and gave and befriended all walks of life. This man was a great American.
