John R. Anderson, 88

ADAMS, Mass. — Mr. John R. Anderson, 88, of Adams died Friday evening, January 3, 2020, at Craneville Place in Dalton.

He was born in Quincy, Mass., on April 27, 1931, a son of the late Charles and Martha (Murphy) Anderson. He was a graduate of Drury High School, North Adams.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge as a first sergeant in 1955.

John worked as a draftsman in the Ordnance division of General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for many years. Following his retirement, he worked as a security guard at the Williams College Museum of Art in Williamstown. He had also worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Comeau) Goodrow-Anderson, whom he married on February 14, 2008; a son, Scott Anderson and his wife, Elizabeth, of Arlington, Va.; a daughter, Heather Whitney and her partner, Blane Munro, of Woodcliff Lake, N.J.; a stepdaughter, JoAnn Reashore and her husband, Ronald, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; one sister, Margaret Dickenson of Lady Lake, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his former wife, June (Whitney) Anderson Lapham; and by two sisters, Elizabeth Barcomb and Carol Begin.
