Richard Carlotta, 89

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Mr. Richard "Dick" H. Carlotta, 89, longtime resident of Stockbridge, Mass., passed away July 14, 2020, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass.

Born in Great Barrington, Mass., on November 8, 1930, Dick was the son of the late Arthur J. and Mary Carlotta Sr. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Searles High School in Great Barrington. From 1948-1951 he served as a corporal in the United States Army's 29th division during the Korean War. 

In 1952, Dick worked for Clarke-Aiken in Lee as a machinist until 1965. From 1966 until 1980, he was assistant manager, co-owner and owner of the Stockbridge Inn, a popular establishment featuring live jazz, Dixieland, and blues performances. He also professionally played accordion, piano and electric piano with groups.

Beginning in 1981, Dick worked as a quality assurance specialist for the Department of Navy through Heroux, Ratheon and Intertek retiring in 1996. A talented raconteur, his dear friends will miss hearing his many stories when he held "court" at the Stockbridge Coffee and Tea Shop.

Dick is survived by sons Richard A. (Amy) and Christopher; sister Lois VanCleef; brother Steve Carlotta and former wife, MaryAnn Bona; granddaughters Megan, Emily and Courtney; a grandson, Justin Carlotta; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents; his twin brother Arthur J. Carlotta Jr.; and his first wife, Mary E. Carlotta.  

Funeral notice: In consideration of COVID-19 regulations, a private family service will be held later, with arrangements provided by the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington.
