Sydney F. Ayres, 84

ADAMS, Mass. —  

Mr. Sydney F. Ayres, 84, of Adams, died on Friday, March 26, 2021 at his home.

He was born in Glasgow, Scotland on October 14, 1936, a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Davidson) Ayres. He attended schools in Scotland and had served with the Scotland Military until moving to the United States in 1967.

Mr. Ayres was a self employed painter and paper hanger, having worked many years until retiring. Syd played semi-pro soccer through the ITAM in Pittsfield and was an avid soccer fan later in life.

He is survived by his life partner of 39 years, Helen (Sarro) Dempsey, with whom he made his home. A son, Sydney Ayres and his wife Lisa of England; a daughter, Linda Ayres of Scotland; a stepson, John Dempsey and his wife Deborah of Pownal, VT; two stepdaughters, Carrie Alibozek and her husband Doug and Eileen Clark and her husband Ronald, all of Adams; two brothers, Robert Ayres and Ian Ayres and his wife Elizabeth of Scotland; one sister, Cathie McIsaac and her husband Allan of Scotland; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother Ronald Ayres, by two sisters, Mary Thomson and Elizabeth McManus and by his grandson Derek Clark.

Funeral services and burial will be private for the family.

There are no calling hours.

Helen, I am so sorry to read of Syd's passing. I shall always recall his warm friendliness, and the incredible strength and loving committment you two always dmonstrated to one another and to your family.
