Ruth Donovan, 86

 

 

Ruth Ann (Peterhansel) Donovan, 86, of Vernon CT. formerly of North Adams died on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. Ruth was born in Holyoke, MA. on October 12, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Henry & Ruth (Parents) Peterhansel.

Ruth attended North Adams Elementary school and was a 1952 graduate of Drury High School. She married Howard F. Donovan on June 9, 1956 in St. Francis Church, North Adams. Ruth was employed by North Adams trust Co. for 14 years as a loan teller, WG Roberts Co. for 25 years as an administrative assistant and assistance treasurer until store closed in 1991, Congregation Beth Israel as a office assistance for a short time and St John’s Episcopal Church (now All Saints) as an Administrative Assistant retiring at the end of 1997. Ruth was also a member of All Saints Episcopal Church where she served as an usher, vestry member, clerk of the vestry, altar guild, lay reader and lay Eucharistic minister.

In 1998, Ruth & Howard retired to North Fort Myers, FL where they spent 7 months each year and returned to North Adams in the summers. They did this for 5 months each year for 10 years, returning permanently to North Adams in 2008. While in Florida, Ruth enjoyed decorative art classes and continued to paint when she came back to North Adams. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Howard Donovan in 2016. She leaves one daughter, Susan A. Robare and her husband Christopher of Vernon, CT.

 

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services for Ruth Donovan will be Wednesday June 16, 2021 at 11AM at Southview Cemetery in the family plot.
