Arthur R. Mowe, 99

BENNINGTON, Vt. —  Arthur Mowe of Bennington Vermont passed away on November 16th at the Vermont Veteran's Home where he has resided for the last year. He was born April 9, 1922 in Hoosac Tunnel MA the son of Augustine and Pasqualina {DeMeo} Mowe.

Art joined the Army on 6/13/41. He was sent to Liverpool England, France, Germany and Belgium. He was involved in three battles during WWII serving with Company M Heavy Weapons Division of the 290th Infantry Regiment including the Battle of the Bulge where he suffered a serious abdominal wound. He was admitted to a London hospital where he recovered for several months. He returned stateside and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart medal.

He returned from the war and worked for the Pacific and Maine railroad and then the Deerfield Glassine Company which was renamed to Deerfield Specialty Papers. He worked there until his retirement advancing to the role of Assistant Superintendent. This is where he met his wife Henrietta and resided in Monroe Bridge MA and then Readsboro, VT. They were a great team and were married for over 72 years. In 1981 Art and Henrietta moved to Bennington VT. He worked for several years at Morse Block in Bennington and Krutiak Lumber in Clarksburg MA. Art loved sports, he was a pitcher in a semi-pro baseball team called the Hawks, he loved to bowl, golf and play pitch. His favorite past time was watching and rooting for the Boston Red Sox.

He leaves his three children: Lorraine Mancuso and her husband Albert of North Adams; Janet Thompson and her husband David of Bennington; and Diane Bachman and her husband Glenn of Vero Beach FL; 5 grandchildren- Judi Dell'Anno, Kevin Bachman, Stephanie Lauko, Mathew and Brandon Mancuso; 5 Great Grandchildren; his brother Augustine Mowe and sister Margaret Sucharzewski. He is predeceased by his wife Henrietta; and brothers- Francis, Louis, Joseph, sisters Florence Mowe and Marion Degara.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A private funeral for Arthur Mowe will be held at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
