Michael Girard, 58

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Michael Robert Girard, 58 of North Adams, MA passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the love of his family and friends on August 1, 2022.  Mike was the son of Carolyn (DelNegro) Girard and the Late Robert Allen Girard. Mike or better known as “Spike” grew up in Williamstown and went to Mt Greylock High school until 1979.  The family moved to North Adams and Mike graduated from Drury High school in 1981. He played many sports including wrestling, golf and skiing.

One of Mike’s greatest joys was riding his motorcycle.  He started riding when he was 7 years old and “boy could he ride!”  He was skilled on and off the racetrack and especially loved enduro racing which he did for many years. Mike was also known as the Northern Berkshire wheelie champ in the 80’s and he was quite the site to see.

Mike made his profession as a contractor and worked for Gordon and Sutton and Tatro Construction. He achieved his Construction Supervisors license and Real Estate license and worked with his family as co-owner of Heritage Apartments until 2011 when he retired. Mike was the most talented guy you could have ever known; he could build or fix just about anything.

Mike’s happy place was always in the woods or on the water, he loved to fish and hunt. He was an incredible marksman.  He loved to go to camp with his buddies, there was nothing better. Mike was always prepared for anything with his magic purple truck, ready for survival, or to feed dinner for eight out of his cooler with an endless supply of Bud Light.  When “Spike” arrived at a gathering he was the life of the party and would keep you laughing for hours with his crazy sense of humor or the outrageous stories of his life.

Mike spent the last years of his life wintering in Florida with his family and enjoying many days out at sea catching fish or at the shooting ranges. His favorite place to go was Sandsprit Park in Stuart to have his morning coffee and muffin and watch the sunrise and the boats come in.

Mike also leaves behind his sisters Christine Girard and her partner Michael Cardinal, Jennifer Segala and husband Paul.  He leaves two nephews Troy Segala and his wife & great niece Aliana Segala of Manhattan New York and Austin Segala, Airman First Class of Dover AFB, DE.  Mike also leaves his longtime partner Maureen O’Hearn and her children Elizabeth Reinke, Zack Porio and Mckenzie Huntoon.

Mike was loved by so many and a friend to all.

There will be a celebration of Mike’s life on Friday August 19th 5:00pm at the Greylock Community Club pavilion 548 State Road  North Adams, MA.  All are welcome.
