Mark L. Thaisz, 75

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mark L. Thaisz, of Williamstown, MA passed away on January 22nd at the age of 75. He was born in 1949 in Springfield, IL. At a young age his family relocated to River Vale, NJ where he spent most of his childhood years.
After high school he attended Cornell University, graduating in 1971 with a BS in Civil Engineering. While at Cornell he was President of his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta. His love of aviation brought him to flight school upon graduation. Mark began his career as a pilot that would last over fifty years, taking him to Glens Falls, NY, and eventually to North Adams, MA, where he spent parts of four decades as a pilot and eventually President and Part Owner of Col-East, Inc.
Mark’s love for flying was only surpassed by his love for his wife Michelle, whom he met in Glens Falls and was married to for 50 beautiful years. An avid craftsman, loved working with his hands and building parts of the family house. Mark had a love for his dogs and the sport of hockey, both as a hockey Dad and a referee. He was a long time USA Hockey official and served for several years as District 6 co-supervisor in Western MA. He was a long time member of the National Ice Hockey Officials Association (NIHOA)’s Berkshire Chapter. Mark was a selfless man who loved giving his time to his community, the South Williamstown Community Association, the Repair Cafe, and in many other ways. Mark was a long time Member of Second Congregational Church serving many roles. Above all else Mark was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Michelle (Villani), his sons Matthew (Kathryn) of West Hartford, CT and Gabriel (Heather) of Hopkinton, MA, his five grandsons Nick, Finn, AJ, Boden, and Cooper, his sisters-in-law Theresa Wegman, Marietta (Pete) Nye, Lesia Thaisz, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents Louis and Marjorie (Brickner) and his brother Robert.
A memorial service will be held on February 6th at Second Congregational Church in South Williamstown, MA at 12:00. Internment will take place at the convenience of the family.
