DALTON, Mass — It was closer than the Mounties expected but they came out with their 22nd consecutive win and move to 8-0 on the season as they held off Wahconah 22-12 Friday night.

The Mounties had four penalties for 35 yards on the night and turned the ball over three times including two interceptions by quarterback Kent Hanson.

What really hurt the Mounties on the night were some big plays by the Wahconah aerial attack.  After trailing 8-0 at halftime the Warriors started the half with a  defensive stop and took over on their own 22.  Two plays later, quarterback Trevor Jamross dropped back and lofted a beautiful pass up to wideout Zack Morey, who caught it in stride and went 79 yards for a touchdown.  The Warriors couldn't punch in the two point conversion but the score was now 8-6.

Mount Greylock wasn't fazed and in just five plays running back Ethan Ryan ran in for another touchdown from seven yards out.  Hanson converted the two points to put the score at 16-6.

Wahconah got the ball back as the fourth quarter opened up the Warriors ran one of the most exciting plays in football, the hook and ladder.  On his own 24, Jamross dropped back and hit Morey for a 16 yard gain, as he was about to be taken down he lateralled to teammate Eli Pease who took the ball 50 yards up to the Mountie 10 yard line.  One play later, senior Stephen Shea rumbled in from two yards out for the touchdown.  The two point conversion failed but the score sat at 16-12.

Wahconah wasn't done yet and on the Mounties first play Ethan Wells stood up the Mt. Greylock running back and Morey ripped out the ball.  Wahconah took over on the Mt. Greylock 35 with a chance to take the lead and end the Mountie win streak.

But just when it looked like the Mounties were in trouble, their defense stepped up and sacked the Jamross on fourth down to stop the scoring threat.  Jamross was filling in as quarterback for Wahconah's injured starter Lane Grogan.

The Mounties got the ball back and went 70 yards on eight plays, finished off by a 30-yard touchdown by Ryan to seal the victory.

Besides the two big plays in the passing game, the Mountie defense was phenomenal holding the Warriors to just 74 rushing yards on 38 rushing attempts.

Despite Hanson's two interceptions he had a solid night passing for 90 yards including a 47-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to wide receiver Noah Kelley.

Mt. Greylock hosts McCann Tech and Wahconah hosts Taconic next Friday night, both games are at 7 p.m.
