NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A turnover-filled game Saturday saw the Drury Blue Devils fall to Amherst, 24-6 on John J. DelNegro Field.

It was a tough game on the offensive side of the ball for the Blue Devils (1-3), as they committed five turnovers. On the first series of the game Drury found itself chasing the game after an interception led to a quick strike from the Amherst offense: a 60-yard touchdown pass from James Mills to Isaiah Moyston.

Mills threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Wide Receiver Moyston scored two of the touchdowns on 103 receiving yards, while teammate Steven Steele added 108 yards and one touchdown.

All of Amherst’s offense came through the air and in the first half of the game. They were able to take a advantage of the turnovers and turn them into points. The Blue Devils did continue to grind all game long. But every time it seemed like Drury was going to get things rolling one of those turnovers caused the Blue Devils to have to start over.

“We had some positives on the offensive end, but we just couldn’t finish drives,” Drury coach Al Marceau said. “It’s not like we were ever out of it, but the turnovers and not finishing drives is a killer.”

Drury went into the half trailing 24-0.

The third quarter was a bit of a stalemate as both teams continued to move the ball up and down the field. It wasn’t until late in the fourth quarter where Obilio Rodriguez gave some life to the Blue Devils by stripping the ball loose and returning it 80 yards for a touchdown. This was the only score of the game for the Blue Devils, and it gave his team a little bit of life.

“He’s [Obilio Rodriguez] been doing this for two or three years. He’s got a heads up about him and he’s always looking to make things happen,” Marceau said.

Drury eventually got the stop they needed once again, but the clock was not on their side. They drove the ball down the field from pinned in their own territory, but the clock ran out before being able to get another score.

Drury moves to 1-3 on the year and will match up with Belchertown next Friday on the road. Amherst  (2-2) takes on Woodstock Academy next Friday on the road.
