Brothers, Duquette Named Athletes of the Week

This week's iBerkshires.com Athletes of the Week helped their teams have a productive vacation week against some local rivals.

The Drury softball team beat Hoosac Valley and McCann Tech on back-to-back days to cap a 3-0 week and run their record to 7-0 on the season.

The Blue Devils have been dominant on offense most of the spring, averaging more than 12 runs per game during that stretch.

Marley Brothers had a big couple of days against the Hurricanes and Hornets to pull her batting average up to .304 with seven runs batted in.

After fighting through a slump, Brothers broke out with three hits, including a home run and a double, and four RBIs in Adams. The next day, she went 2-for-3 with a game-tying two-run double in the sixth inning against McCann.

"Marley's like a sleeper," Drury coach Michelle Darling said. "She comes in and just delivers. And they knew it was coming down to the last inning."

Pittsfield's baseball team did not have to play a seventh inning in any of its games, and junior Jake Duquette is one big reason why.

Duquette went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs in a 19-4, six-inning win over East Longmeadow to start the week.

One day later, he was 2-for-2 with a run batted in to help the Generals take a 10-0, five-inning win over Wahconah.

And he finished the week by going 2-for-3 with an RBI in a 17-0, five-inning win over Chicopee Comp.

Duquette this spring leads Pittsfield (5-2) with a .611 batting average and is tied for the team lead with eight RBIs.

The Generals might have to go the distance this week to keep their four-game winning streak alive. A tough stretch starts with Pope Francis (8-1) on Tuesday and continues with Minnechaug (5-2) on Thursday and Taconic (4-1) on Saturday afternoon at Clapp Park.

Brothers and the Drury softball team will be tested by Mount Everett (4-0) on Tuesday.
