A goal-scorer and a goalkeeper stood out this week as their respective teams posted post-season victories.

On Tuesday, McCann Tech senior Alanza Quinones stopped seven shots in leading her team to a 2-0 win in the State Vocational small school semi-finals.

On Saturday, Drury senior Jonah Miles scored both goals in a 2-0 win over Mahar in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 tournament.

Quinones and the Hornets went on to fall in the State Voc final at home on Wednesday, but even in a 3-0 defeat, she was credited with 15 saves.

On the season, she has 70 saves in nine games and a save percentage of 77 percent.

Although it ended up runner-up to Norfolk Aggie in the State Voc tournament, McCann begins its MIAA Western Mass tournament run on Monday when it travels to face Gateway.

Drury began its tournament run on Saturday with a 2-1, comeback win over Mahar.

Miles evened the score in the 54th minute when he converted a penalty kick for his ninth goal of the season.

Drury coach John Jacobbe did not have to say anything to his team when it was awarded the PK with its season hanging in the balance.

"Jonah and Jon Boland were my two choices [for PKs] at the beginning of the year, and Jonah took the first couple, and he's been successful," Jacobbe said. "We're confident in both of them, but Jonah usually has been the guy.

"Jon Boland has had a helluva year. I can only imagine how good his year would be if I let him take PKs, too, but Jonah has been cashing in, and we're going to stick with what works for now."

Drury looks for its 15th win and a spot in the sectional semi-finals when it visits Belchertown on Tuesday.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Bedard Bros. Auto Sales of Cheshire.
