One of this week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Athletes of the Week is the leading scorer on the county's most successful soccer team. The other helped her team battle through a frustrating September and gear up for a push for the postseason over the next three weeks.

Mount Greylock senior Finn Welch has been scoring goals in bunches for the Mounties this fall.

On Wednesday, he scored a pair and set up a third in an independent road game at Easthampton.

Two nights later in Williamstown, Welch found the back of the net four times and had an assist in a 5-0 win over Berkshire County North Division rival Pittsfield.

For the season, the Mounties' striker has 17 goals -- just more than two per game for 7-1 Mount Greylock, whose lone blemish came against Division 1 power Longmeadow.

Mount Greylock can qualify for the Western Mass D3 tournament on Friday when it faces another D1 power, Ludlow, under the lights on John Allen Field.

The Drury girls have their work cut out to make the posteason after going 0-8 in September.

But they are still very much alive in the Berkshire County South Division, where the top two teams earn tickets to the sectional tournament, after a 1-0-1 week against Mount Everett and Taconic.

The Blue Devils were competitive throughout their long losing streak, losing three one-goal games against Berkshire North opponents Mount Greylock and Wahconah.

Drury finally got some good results on the scoreboard in October in a pair of home games.

Leading scorer Kayla McGrath scored a goal in a tie against the Eagles on Tuesday.

On Friday, she had a hat trick and set up a goal in the Blue Devils' first win of the year, a 5-1 triumph over Taconic.

Drury 1-2-1 after one pass through the double round robin in the South. The Blue Devils have a rematch with Hoosac Valley on Wednesday before heading south for a South Division showdown against Mount Everett at the end of the week.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
