WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- A pair of goals within the first 10 minutes of each half made all of the difference in the Mount Greylock boys' soccer team's 3-0 home win over Wahconah on Monday night.

With the victory, The Mounties earned their third straight shutout of the season, improving their overall record to 4-0 in the process. Through four games this season, Blair Dils' club has outscored its opponents by a total of 16-1.

Senior captain Tom Dils gave Greylock an early lead by heading home a long throw-in by fellow captain Ryan Mahar in the seventh minute of the game. The Warriors (0-3-1), however, remained very competitive througout the first half despite being outshot 10-4 in the frame.

"Wahconah was quick and dangerous in the counter attack," Coach Dils said. "They pressured us for a long stretch of the end of the first half and were unlucky not to get one past [Mounties keeper] Sean [Houston]."

Junior midfielder Nathan Majumder increased Greylock's lead to 2-0 just five minutes into the second half, threading a low-lining shot through the Warriors' defense and into the left side of the net. With 14 minutes left in the game, eighth-grader Benni McComish put the game on ice for the Mounties by scoring the first varsity goal of his high school career.

"Scoring inside of ten minutes in each half was really the difference," Dils said. "Nathan's goal was an excellent play on his part, and Benni hit a one-time volley off of a rebound made possible by Tom's wicked blast from the right side. Benni's a very talented player, is extremely intelligent for a player his age and regularly finds himself in the right position at the right time."

Houston made five saves in net to earn his third consecutive shutout. In four games this year, the junior goalkeeper is allowing just 0.3 goals per game. Houston received big help on defense from senior fullback Nick Carson, who, according to Dils, had a strong game both mentally and physically.

"The game was marred by a red card and several yellow cards," Dils said. "With about 15 minutes left, Nick was involved in a tangle with a Wahconah player, and that same player came up swinging. Nick showed a lot of poise by just walking away from what could have been a very messy situation."

The Mounties return to action on Tuesay with a 4:15 p.m. home game against Lee.
