WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- For 56 minutes, the Frontier boys soccer team was pinned in its end but able to avoid any damage on the scoreboard.

But once the floodgates opened, Finn Welch was a one-man wrecking crew.

Welch scored four goals -- including three in a span of three minutes -- lead Mount Greylock to a 4-0 win.

The Mounties best chances of the first half sailed either just high or just wide of the goal, but Welch was not to be denied on pair of penalty kicks in the 57th minute.

Both times, the Mount Greylock senior went low and to the right of Frontier keeper Nicholas Jarvis (seven saves).

Both times, he was given an assist of sorts by junior Leo Rossiter, who was fouled twice inside the 18 in a span of 22 seconds to earn the PKs.

“Leo’s really come on strong,” Mount Greylock coach Blair Dils said. “He had a little lull in the middle of the season, but he’s really been playing well. All the forwards have really been playing well -- Tate [Kuster] and Toby [Foehl], Leo out on the wings, Cedric Lemaire -- those guys are working hard.

“But Leo with his speed … he was injured in the beginning of the year. And I think he’s healthy for the first time in quite a few weeks, so you’re seeing what happens when he goes at pace.”

Rossiter had his third “kind of” assist on Welch’s third goal, with 20 minutes, 41 seconds on the clock. Welch put back the rebound of a shot by Rossiter, who was fed by Welch off a run up the middle.

Just four minutes later, Emanuel Soza-Foias set up Welch with a cross from deep on the right wing, and Welch finished with his 23rd goal of the season.

Four goals in seven minutes, and Welch and his classmates could really relax and enjoy their Senior Night.

Junior Oscar Low made six saves -- four in the second half -- to earn the win goal as Mount Greylock improved to 13-1-1 with one game left in the regular season: Wednesday at Minnechaug.

The Berkshire County North Division champions will bookend their regular season with another Division 1 opponent before going to the Division 3 Western Massachusetts tournament. A loss at D1 Longmeadow in the season opener is the only blemish on Mount Greylock’s resume.

“You’re going up against teams you don’t normally see,” Dils said of his decision to schedule 2018 D2 finalist Frontier and ‘Chaug in the final week of the season. “We don’t have any reason with Minnechaug. We have a fair amount of history with these guys. It’s just the schedule breaks certain ways every year.

“It’s kind of nice to get these two independent games late and just come out and focus on us. … It just really allowed us to focus on ourselves for a game and get ourselves right.”
