One of this week’s iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Athletes of the Week helped her team earn a Western Massachusetts Championship. The other has his team contending to do the same.

Mount Greylock’s Toby Foehl had a big week in his team’s sectional tournament debut on Friday, registering a hat trick as the Mounties easily advanced to Wednesday’s semi-final against Hampshire Regional.

Foehl is one of the leading scorers for a squad that has averaged nearly four goals per game.

On Wednesday, the Mounties will be looking to get back to the sectional finals for the first time since 2014, an epic contest that took 12 rounds of penalty kicks to send Belchertown to the state semi-finals.

Lenox’s girls cross country team had a frustrating loss of its own at the 2018 Western Mass Championships, where it lost the Division 2 title by just two points to Foehl’s Mount Greylock classmates.

On Saturday at Northfield Mountain, Lenox sophomore Grace Elliot helped turn the tables as the Millionaires edged Mount Greylock by four points to claim the crown.

Elliot covered the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 21.90 seconds to place third as an individual.

On Saturday, she will help Lenox try to improve on last year’s third-place showing at the State Championships when the top harriers from across the commonwealth converge on the Gardner Municipal Golf Course.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
