MONSON, Mass. — A match against unbeaten Monson is a tough enough as it is, but when your tean has to play two-man short because of red card ejection, well, that just makes it a lot tougher.

On Thursday afternoon the Spartans (3-0-0) battled Monson to a 0-0 tie at half time. Both team defenses were playing well, but in the 45th minute Nick Masiero took a pass from Lucas Wartella and deposited the ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. The Spartans needed that goal because they would have to play the last 25 minutes two men short due to red card ejections.

Monson would try to take advantage of the situation, but the defensive play of Monument was up to the challenge. Bobby Kinne and Eitan Kii anchored the defense and the Spartans came away with the 1-0 victory.

Monument has no time to rest as they will play host to Wahconah (3-1-1) today at 4 p.m.
