McCann Tech's Quinones, Pittsfield's Benoit Help Teams Stay Unbeaten

This week's iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week may have taken a break from their classes but kept busy on the playing fields.
 
McCann Tech senior Ayrian Quinones had a hit, a sacrifice fly and a pair of RBIs on Friday to help the Hornets improve to 4-0 this spring with a 6-4 win over Smith Academy.
 
Quinones has been a key to a McCann Tech offense that is averaging more than 10 runs per game.
 
She is hitting a team-best .643 with nine hits in 14 at-bats and has driven in a team-best eight runs.
 
The return of classes brings a busy week on the diamond for the Hornets, who travel to Hopkins on Monday before coming home to host Putnam on Tuesday.
 
No county baseball team has traveled further from home this spring than Pittsfield High. And no one has a better record than the Generals.
 
PHS came home from Taunton after taking two games on Friday to improve to 5-0 this season.
 
That twinbill included a 3-2, eight-inning win over Taunton.
 
Ian Benoit earned the win on the mound with two innnigs of scoreless relief. He also scored the winning run after working a walk in the top of the eighth.
 
He improved to 2-0 on the mound with a 1.00 earned run average over seven innings of work. At thie plate, he has a .455 batting average (5-for-11) and leads the Generals in RBIs (six), runs scored (eight) and walks (eight).
 
Pittsfield stays home this week, entertaining Hoosac Valley on Tuesday and East Longmeadow on Saturday at Clapp Park.
