Warriors Too Much for Devils After Halftime

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Drury boys' soccer team is running into trouble in the second half lately. On Tuesday, the Blue Devils gave up three goals after halftime for the second game in a row, resulting in a 4-1 home loss to Wahconah.

Last week, Greg Caproni's squad was down 2-1 to Taconic at the half, but gave up a 3-spot in the second half to lose 5-1. Jake Tietgens' goal off of a breakaway in the 25th minute of the game gave Drury (2-4-1) a 1-0 lead on Tuesday, but the Warriors (3-3-2) tied the game on a score by Eric Clem seven minutes later. The Blue Devils survived an 11-3 disadvantage in shots in the first half, but Wahconah kept the pressure on after the break, outshooting the hosts 12-2 and finding the back of the net three times in the second.

"This was a tale of two halves for us," Caproni said. "In the first half, we ran with Wahconah and struck first. But in the second half, they came out on fire and it was tough for us to keep up with them. Wahconah is always a high-caliber team. We made a couple of silly mistakes, and they capitalized on them."

Nick Tutela scored off of a corner kick for the Warriors two minutes and 17 seconds after halftime, and the visitors later padded their lead on tallies by Shawn Fox and Jeff Pullano. Sophomore goalie Joseph Liporace made 10 saves in net for Drury, while Tutela stopped five shots for Wahconah.

The Blue Devils will try to break a two-game losing streak when they play at Pittsfield at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
