DALTON, Mass. — After being shut out by Ludlow on Monday afternoon, the Wahconah boys' soccer team wanted to come out quick put the pressure on visiting Drury . The Warriors did just that, scoring two first-half goals before pulling away for a 6-2 win at home on Friday.

After controlling play for the first eight minutes, Jeff Pullano scored on a perfictly placed corner kick to put Wahconah up 1-0. The score would stay the same until the 29th minute, when senior captain Nick Montferret found sophomore Kevin Boino for the second goal of the contest.

Although the Warriors (2-1-1) were controlling the game, Drury had to feel pretty good that it was only 2-0.

The Devils came out with some offensive intensity and caught Wahconah sleeping a bit coming out of halftime. Drury eighth-grader Connor Meehan beat senior Nick Tutela and the lead was cut in half.

This came as a wake up call for Wahconah, which immediately put the pressure back on Drury. Pullano landed his second goal of the game in the 57th minute thanks to an assist from sophomore Eric Klem. Mark Avallon and Ryan Parker each scored for Wahconah in the 62nd and 66th minute, respectively, helping the hosts open a four-goal lead. Meehan answered again, though, taking a pass from senior Jacob Groves and drilling a shot to the back of the net to cut the lead to 5-2.

That is as close as Drury (0-3-1) would get, though, as Parker scored his second goal of the day in the 75th minute to put the match away.

"My one goal going into this game was to play hard and competitive," Blue Devils head coach Greg Caproni said. "The score doesn't justify how well we actually played.

"Wahconah is an awesome team to play. They move the ball very quickly and capitalize on scoring opportunities. As a team, we played hard and that is all I was looking for going into this coming week facing two South Division teams."

Drury's Joe Liporace made 15 saves in the loss, while Tutela finished with four saves for Wahconah. Drury next plays host to Mount Everett at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, while Wahconah hosts Lenox at 7 p.m. on the same day.
