DALTON, Mass. -- Talk about being opportunistic.
The Hoosac Valley boys' soccer team, which was outshot 16-4 by Wahconah on Saturday, took full advantage of their limited opportunities, scoring three times in the second half to pull off a 3-0 road win over the Warriors.
Wahconah (5-5-4) also held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks but couldn't find a way past Hurricanes' keeper Tom Galisa, who made 13 saves to earn his fourth shutout of the year. It was a huge victory for Hoosac, which snapped a three-game losing streak to improve its overall record to 5-5-1.
Unlike a 1-1 tie against the Warriors two weeks ago, Camilo Bermudez's squad had enough scoring the second time around to pull out the win. Senior Nick Ryan scored a pair of goals after halftime, the first coming off a pass from junior Lucas Bourdon 10 minutes after the break. Junior Sean Ryan-Kut scored unassisted 10 minutes later to make it 2-0 before Ryan sealed the deal by finishing off a feed from junior Shaun Knapp in the 65th minute of play.
Bermudez said senior Mitchell Carlow played a crucial role in shutting Wahconah down on the defensive end. The Hurricanes will try to keep their momentum going on Monday, when St. Joe's comes to Cheshire for a 4 p.m. game.
