WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Last week, a young group of players led the Mount Greylock boys' soccer team to a 5-2 win over Hampden Charter School of Science. On Tuesday, that same group of Mounties was even better, sweeping the season series with Hampden with a 4-0 win at John T. Allen Field.

"Our young guns rose to the challenge again today," Greylock head coach Blair Dils said. "We were particularly pleased to get the shutout and hold Abbas Tamaradze from scoring. We controlled more of the play today than we did last week. Our wider field played to our advantage. We were able to turn the corner on their outside backs and get the ball into dangerous areas."

Eighth-grader Felix Kershaw had big day for the 8-0 Mounties, scoring the first of his two goals just three minutes into the game. Sophomore Ian Brink set up the goal by making a good run on the flank and slotting a perfectly placed ball for Kershaw to run onto. Greylock then made it 2-0 nine minutes later when freshman John Pfister took advantage of a turnover in the midfield and calmly slotted the ball past the Hampden keeper.

Kershaw added an unassisted tally in the 31st minute, giving the hosts a 3-0 lead at the break. Brink then finished the scoring 16 minutes into the second half, taking a nifty left-footed pass over the top from classmate Dan Flynn and quickly finding the back of the net. Junior Tom Guettler played a big role on the defensive end to preserve the shutout, while Cal Filson and Alejandro Viquez-Salas each made two saves splitting time in goal for the Mounties.

"We're just starting a stretch of five games in nine days, but what's nice is all of them are home," Dils said. "We're looking forward to facing off against a Northern Division opponent on Thursday."

Greylock next plays at Taconic at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
