PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Pittsfield boys soccer team Monday jumped out to a 5-0 lead and hung on for a 5-3 win over Mount Greylock at Kirvin Park.

Owen Klatka scored twice, and Kyle Cardoso and Gustavo De Oliveira each added a goal in the first half to give the Generals a 4-0 advantage at half-time.

“I thought we played a very fluid first half, both offensively and defensively,” Pittsfield coach Ryan Wanek said. “Offensively, we were playing quick and looking to attack wide, defensively we held our shape well. I liked that we were able to start the game fast.”

Pittsfield carried that momentum into the start of the second half, when Quinn Schaller added a goal.

But Mount Greylock turned the tables on the Generals from there, getting goals from Jim Namkoong, Simon Shin and Cam Miller to make a game of it.

“I thought Greylock played with more energy in the final 20 minutes and were able to put three in before the final whistle,” Wanek said. “We lost all conviction in our play and Greylock made us pay the price.”

Connor Devine and John Mullen combined to make six saves to earn the win in Pittsfield’s goal.

The Generals (9-2-3) host Pope Francis on Wednesday.

Mount Greylock (5-9) hosts Hampshire Regional on Wednesday.
