WESTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley boys' soccer team went 5-0-1 over its final six games of the season, but the Hurricanes' offense went cold on Friday, resulting in a 3-0 road loss to Hampshire in the first round of the Division 2 Western Mass. tournament.

The No. 6 Red Raiders (10-4-3) jumped on the No. 11 Hurricanes by scoring two goals in the first 16 minutes of the game. Brendan Bzdel found the back of the net 12 minutes into the game before Scott Labrie made it 2-0 four minutes later. The Hoosac defense tighten things up the rest of the game, but Josh Fasoli added an insurance goal in the second half to advance Hampshire to a quarterfinal date with No. 3 Monument Mountain on Monday.

Senior goalie Tom Galisa made eight saves playing in his final game in the Hurricanes' net. Although the offense couldn't get things going in the playoffs, it was still a very successful season in head coach Camilo Bermudez's first year at the helm. One year after going 1-13-2, the 'Canes won the South Division title and finished with a final record of 9-6-2.
