WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — West Springfield scored on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to break a 2-2 tie and earn a 3-2, come-from-behind win over Mount Greylock on Wednesday afternoon.

Sam Dils scored two goals, and Cal Filson made 10 saves as the Mounties dropped to 7-3-1.

"We lost a tough one in a tough fashion this afternoon," Mount Greylock coach Blair Dils said. "We certainly played well enough to win or at least tie, so to come out on the short end against a good West Springfield team stings.

"We finished up our out-of-county schedule today with a final record of 2-2-1. With several D1 schools on the schedule, .500 is about what we expected before the season started. Unfortunately, we really felt like we let the game get away from us today in the last 15 minutes. A win over West Springfield would have given us a good win to help with the new Walker system and tournament seeding."

Both Dils' goals gave Mount Greylock a lead.

The first came in the ninth minute when Eric Hirsch set up Dils for a left-footed shot that curled over the West Springfield keeper.

The visitors tied it late in the half on a corner kick, but the Mounties went back on top midway through the second half.

"Grant [Raphael] sent in a direct kick from 45 yards out," Blair Dils said. "Sam [Dils] curled around the mass of players in front of the goal and Sam deftly nicked the ball with has head past the on-rushing goalie."

Another corner kick led to another game-tying goal for West Springfield seven minutes later.

Then in the closing minutes, a play inside the 18 led to a yellow card on Filson and a PK for West Springfield. Backup keeper Nick Bolognia entered the game cold and guessed the wrong way on the kick, which was on target to give the visitors the lead for good.

Mount Greylock returns to Berkshire County play on Friday at Kirvin Park against Pittsfield.
