PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- After two straight ties on the road last week, the Mount Greylock boys' soccer team regained its winning ways in a 4-0 win over Saint Joseph's on Wednesday. It was the Mounties' first road win of the season, improving their overall mark to 6-0-2 on the year.

"It was a predictably uninspiring game for all, including the fans and referees," Greylock head coach Blair Dils said. "We scored in the second minute, which took some of the pressure off. The goals for the game were to get our two points, not get injured and get some of the younger players varsity game time. We achieved those goals and now our attention turns to Wahconah."

The Mounties, which outshot the Crusaders 11-2 in the first half, got on the board quickly on a goal by Jesse Foehl in the second minute of the game. Foehl finished off a pass from Alex White on the far post for his fourth goal of the season. Ten minutes later, senior Luke Costley tipped a ball over the head of St. Joe's goalkeeper Matt Begrowicz off a feed from junior Nathan Majumder.

Freshman Eric Hirsch then closed out the game by scoring a pair of goals, one in the 21st minute and one three minutes after the second half had begun. Junior Keath Machado led a defensive effort that allowed Greylock goalie Sean Houston to only make two saves in order to earn his fourth shutout of the season.

"Eric Hirsch did a nice job of finishing today," Dils said. "His first goal was a one-time shot off a rebound that he put away with authority. On his second goal, he made a great run to get in behind. Nate [Majumder] fed him the ball, and he calmly put it past the goalie. Eric continues to make things happen when he's on the field."

The Mounties are at the Warriors on Thursday for a game starting at 4 p.m.
