PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Luis Rodriguez scored a breakaway goal early in the first half to lead the Taconic High School boys soccer team to a 2-0 win over Drury on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Devils lost more than just the lead on the play that led to Rodriguez's goal. On the sequence, Danny Alvarez was injured. He had to leave the game, but x-rays on his wrist were negative, according to Blue Devils coach John Jaccobe.
"It was tough seeing Danny go down but you have to play the whistle and we allowed a bad thing to Danny compound into a goal by not playing the whistle," Jacobbe said.
A few minutes after falling behind, Drury gave up an own goal before rallying.
The Blue Devils were able to create some chances, but Jacobbe said it feels right now like the team is "shooting in a hockey size goal."
"We are in just about every game we play but we have yet to complete an 80-minute effort," Jaccobe said. "Our poor start led to the loss but I am proud of the way we competed in attempt to come back and I feel we played one of our best halfs of the year in the scoreless second half."
Drury (0-10-3) hosts Lenox on Tuesday, when Taconic travels to Wahconah.
