Poor Second Half Costs Drury against Taconic

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Drury boys' soccer team came out flat after halftime and it cost them in a 5-1 road loss to Taconic on Monday.

The Braves (2-3-1) received goals from Brian Addy, Timothy Schmidt and Mike Connors after the break to pull away from a Blue Devils team that fell to 2-3-1 with the loss.

"This was a tough one to swallow," Drury head coach Greg Caproni said. "Going into a game against a South Division rival, you have an expectation to do well. We played well in the first half but seemed to fall apart in the second half. As a coach, I shoulder a lot of the responsibly for the loss. There are many things as a team we have to work to improve to push to the next level."

Drury, which was outshot 9-4 in the match, fell behind 1-0 in the 10th minute of the game when Patrick Boua got his foot on a loose ball inside the Devils' box. Drury captain Jake Tietens later tied the score on a breakaway in the 29th minute, but Addy would take the lead back for Taconic just over three minutes later by scoring the first of his two goals on the day. Addy took advantage of a Blue Devils' mistrap in the box to give the Braves a 2-1 halftime lead.

Caproni said sophomore Tyler Cote performed well on defense, while goalie Joseph Liporace stopped five shots on the day.

Drury next hosts Mount Everett at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
