SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Gwendolyn Carpenter scored twice to lead the Mount Everett girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over Drury on Monday.

After a scorless first half, Carpenter got the scoring started with a goal on an assist from Chelea Balestro in the 43rd minute.

Drury tied it a minute later when Alli Brassard set up Jill Tietgens.

But with two minutes left, the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick, and Carpenter converted to give her team the win.

"The team barely squeaked by with a win tonight," Mount Everett coach Jess Murtagh said. "For some reason, we were off during this game. Despite seeming like we were in 'one gear,' a few players stepped it up and played hard.

"In the end, it was a win we needed and we'll take what we can get. We're fired up and ready to go for Lee."

Madison Ullrich stopped 13 shots for the Eagles (7-1), who get that shot against Lee on the road on Wednesday.

Drury's Kaitlyn Toomey also stopped 13 shots. The Blue Devils (0-6-1) host Mount Greylock on Friday.
