WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- With first place in the South Division on the line, the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team came back in dramatic fashion to earn a 3-2 come-from-behind home win over Drury on Wednesday.

Down 2-0 at halftime after a pair of goals from Blue Devils sophomore Cori Ghidotti, the Mounties responded by scoring three times in the second half. Junior Alexandra DeVeaux and sophomore Miranda Bucky both scored off assists from junior Alex Majetich within a three-minute span midway through the second half. With less than eight minutes left in the clock, sophomore Sophie Leamon netted the game winner off of a pass from DeVeaux.

The win improves Greylock to 7-4-2 overall and 4-0-2 in South Division play. Drury, meanwhile, falls to 4-5-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the division.

"It was an exciting, back-and-forth game that was very evenly played," Mounties head coach Tom Ostheimer said. "Drury took advantage of two defensive breakdowns in the first half, and we squandered several very good early scoring opportunities.
Finally, our offense came through for us with those two goals in three minutes and the final go-ahead goal with seven minutes left."

While Greylock certainly benefitted from a second half in which it outshot Drury 12-5, Molly Meczywor's club was forced to look back on a stellar first half in which they held a 10-6 edge in the shots department. Ghidotti first scored in the 24th minute off an assist from Cece Lawson. She then netted her eighth goal of the season 12 minutes later when she finished off a cross from senior Mariah Ferrara.

"This game was a heartbreaker," Meczywor said. "We came out with a game plan and executed very well in the first half. We kept the ball low and moved it well around their tough goalie. Unfortunately, we were not effective in removing their sweeper from play. We also got beat on the outside through their midfielders. We have seven players injured right now and the lack of depth hurt us in the final 10 minutes."

The goalie Meczywor spoke about is Mounties junior Margot Besnard, who finished with 11 saves in the game. Sweeper Alexa Adams also played a big role on the defensive end for Greylock, which next hosts Mount Everett at 6 p.m. on Friday night.

Junior goalie Ali Tatro (11 saves) and sophomore midfielder Morgan Lamarre were sparks on defense for the Blue Devils, who next play at St. Joe's at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
