NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- It ended up being a Senior Day worth celebrating for the Drury girls' soccer team on Tuesday. Not only did the Blue Devils earn a 5-0 win over Mount Everett, but Molly Meczywor was also able to acknowledge a pair of senior captains who were forced to sit out their final year with the team with knee injuries.

"This is a special group and it was nice to get a win on Senior Day," Meczywor said. "It felt great to see seniors Allie Bona and Olivia Koperek get called out and start on their home field."

The victory improves Drury's record to 6-5-3 overall and 6-1-2 in the South Division. Meczywor's club now needs either a tie or a win in its final two games to clinch a spot in the postseason. A win over rival Hoosac Valley on Friday night (Gametime is at 4:15 p.m.) will also give the Blue Devils a share of the South Division title.

Drury got off to a fast start on Tuesday, getting a goal in the first minute of play from sophomore Cori Ghidotti. That goal was set by senior Mariah Ferrara, who earned her second assist of the game off a strike from Cece Lawson in the 38th minute to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at halftime.

"Everyone played in this game and everyone contributed to this win," Meczywor said. "We came out strong, and that intensity carried us throughout the game. Our forwards continued to move the ball very well, passing and using the width to our advantage. Mariah continued to show great leadership, passing several times when she could have scored."

It ended up being a big day for Ferrara, who added a pair of second-half goals to go along with her two assists in the first half. Ferrara found the back of the net in the 48th minute off a feed from junior Laryssa LaPointe and later struck again in the 62nd minute thanks to a pass from Chelsea DeGroff, who also scored in the 51st minute off of an assist from Ghidotti.

After her four-point performance on Tuesday, Ferrara is now second on team with 17 points on the year. She trails only Ghidotti, who leads the team with 10 goals and eight assists. Junior goalkeeper Ali Tatro made five saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season for the Blue Devils, who also received a solid game from sophomore midfielder Morgan Lamarre on the defensive end.

Drury held a 21-5 advantage in shots in the game, forcing Everett goalie Sam Hoover into making 18 stops.
