NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- Gwendolyn Carpenter scored two goals, and Madison Ullrich stopped five shots as the Mount Everett girls soccer team defeated Berlin, N.Y., 3-2, on Friday at the New Lebanon Tournament.

"It was a great first game for the Eagles with a lot of new and young players," Mount Everett coach Jess Murtagh said. "Offensively, we had many opportunities and should have finished more goals."

Carpenter scored the game's first goal midway through the first half with help from Lauren Edwards, and she scored unassisted early in the second half to give the Eagles (1-0) a 2-1 lead.

After Berlin tied the game three minutes later, Madeline VonRuden scored the game-winner unassisted.

Mount Everett plays in the tournament's championship game on Saturday at 8 p.m.
