CHESHIRE, Mass. -- The Mount Everett and Hoosac Valley girls soccer teams battled to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday morning in a game interrupted by a lightning delay.

Mallory Mazzeo got the scoring started 13 minutes into the second half when she converted a feed from Sophie Reed.

About a minute later, the teams were forced to take refuge from the storm.

“Both teams came out of the delay working hard,” Hoosac Valley coach Kathy Budaj said. “Hoosac had a great chance on a shot by Alena Rehill, which the goalie saved and then Alena grabbed the rebound and the [second] shot went over.”

With five minutes left, Mount Everett’s Emily Steuernagle set up Chevelle Raifstranger for the tying goal.

Emma Goewey stopped six shots for Mount Everett. Emma Meczywor had three saves for the Hurricanes.

Hoosac Valley (3-5-2) hosts Lenox on Friday. The Eagles (2-3-1) are at Lee on Friday.
