ADAMS, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley girls' soccer team earned their first win of the 2011 season in convincing fashion on Thursday, shutting out Mount Everett 5-0 at Renfrew Field.

Five different players scored goals for the Hurricanes (1-0-1), who held a 22-7 edge in shots in the game. Junior Danielle Beauchemin started the scoring by finishing off a pass from senior Miranda Gajda in the fifth minute of the game. Two minutes later, Gajda scored unassisted to double Hoosac's lead. Senior Ashley Schneider then knocked in a feed from sophomore Alyssa Bush nine minutes later to give the hosts a 3-0 lead at the half.

The 'Canes defense got into the scoring action in the second half. Usual goalie Megan Richardson came out of her box to tally a goal in the 58th minute. Sophomore Courtney Hayer, who normally plays sweeper for Hoosac, also found the back of the net two minutes later.

"We played a beautiful possession game and controlled play for 80 minutes," Hurricanes head coach Blair Mahar said. "It was a good warmup for the Wahconah game."

Richardson made one save in net before giving way to Elizabeth Provost, who stopped two shots in the second half. Sam Hoover made 12 saves in net for the Eagles.

Hoosac next plays at Wahconah at 4 p.m. on Monday.
