GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Zufan Bazzano and Gabi DeFelice scored Wednesday to lead Monument Mountain’s girls soccer team to a 2-1 win over Hoosac Valley in the quarter-finals of the Western Mass Division 3 tournament.

The top-seeded Spartans (12-2-2) jumped out to a lead in the 17th minute and went up, 2-0, midway through the second half.

Hoosac Valley’s Allie Mendel scored with three minutes left on an assist from Carah Cote.

“What a great game,” Hoosac coach Kathy Budaj said. “Both teams played hard. For some reason, we could not capitalize on our chances and score.

“I’m so proud of how the girls played tonight. It was a great game of soccer. Monument is a good team, and I hope they can make Berkshire County proud.”

Kailynne Frederick made six saves for ninth-seeded Hoosac Valley (11-8-1).

Emily Rada made seven stops for Monument (12-2-2), which hosts Wahconah on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Holyoke High School in the semi-finals.
