CHESHIRE, Mass. — The Hoosac Valley girls' soccer team competed well with the top team in the North Division on Monday, but a pair of first-half goals by juniors Kara Alfonsi and Aleah Sangiovanni were enough for Pittsfield to earn a 2-1 win on the road and remain undefeated this year.

Alfonsi gave the Generals (7-0-1) the lead 15 minutes into the game by finishing off a pass from senior Courtney McLaughlin. Sangiovanni doubled Pittsfield's margin four minutes later, scoring off of a feed from classmate Allie Supranowicz.

Senior captain Danielle Beauchemin scored her third goal of the season six minutes into the second half to get the Hurricanes (3-2) on the board, but the Generals' defense shut the door from there. Sophomore Megan Richardson had a stellar game in goal for Hoosac, making a season-high 17 saves in the narrow defeat.

The 'Canes return to action on Wednesday with a home game against Frontier at 4 p.m. Pittsfield next hosts Mount Greylock at the same time on Thursday.
