LENOX, Mass. -- The Swampscott girls soccer team Saturday scored twice in the final 10 minutes to break open a one-goal game and earn a 3-0 win over Lenox.

Haley Bernardt scored all three goals, the first on a direct kick from 30 yards out midway through the first half.

“Swampscott played a very technically skilled game and did a great job moving the ball around from feet to feet, but I thought for the first 70 minutes we played strong defense and were aggressive to 50-50 balls and were able to find some strong spells of possession,” Lenox coach Kyle Zinchuk said. “In the last 10 minutes, we started trying to push for the equalizer and took more risks, which allowed Swampscott to capitalize for some insurance goals, first on a hard collision between their striker and our defender and our goalkeeper, and second on a well placed strong shot from just outside the 18.”

Sophie Patella made 14 saves for the Millionaires, who were outshot by a margin of 17-10.

Lenox (2-4-1) hosts Mount Greylock on Thursday.
