Millionaires Shut Down Devils' Offense

LENOX, Mass. — A long blast by Jen Delasco gave the Lenox girls' soccer team the lead in the first half, and the Millionaires added another goal late in the game to earn a 2-0 home win over Drury on Monday.

The Blue Devils (1-4) struggled on offense for the second straight game and were outshot 15-6 in the contest. Drury goalie Ali Tatro made 13 saves in the match, but Delasco's blast from 25 yards out was too hot for her to handle in the 16th minute of play. The ball slid through Tatro's arms, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead at the break.

"We gave Jen too much room to move," Blue Devils head coach Molly Meczywor said. "Their last goal was a tap in after a bobbled save. Their players were very aggressive and attacked the goal very well.

Eighth-grader Tova Brown was the beneficiary of the tap-in goal for the Millionaires (4-1), finding the back of the net in the 71st minute to put the game away.

"Lenox is a very technically-sound team," Meczywor said. "They play possession very well and their midfielders have great field vision and were able to distribute to the corners effectively. We switched our formation to a 4-4-2 in an effort to solidify the middle, and it was effective."

Meczywor also credited junior Morgan Lamarre, who she said "was exceptional, once again, on the defensive side."

Drury will try to regain its scoring touch on Thursday when it plays at Taconic at 4 p.m.
