NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Sydni Jamros had a hat trick for the Hoosac Valley girls soccer team as it topped Drury, 3-1, Friday night at MCLA.

 

It was the first game of the season for the Hurricanes, but it certainly didn’t seem like it. Hoosac (1-0) came out sharp and hungry early on getting their first chances of the game just 4 minutes forcing Mackenzie Dobbert into a double save. Two minutes later, they were knocking on the door again, and this time Riley Robinson was able to find Jamros, who had a nice shot hit the post and go in. Ten minutes later, these two connected again for a goal in the same fashion giving Hoosac the early two goal lead inside 16 minutes. 

 

“Our effort was fantastic, Every single player worked hard. They were winning 50/50’s, I saw some beautiful connecting passes and as a coach that is awesome to see.” Hoosac Valley coach Kathy Budaj said. “Riley and Sydni have been playing together for awhile now, and they worked really well together.” 

 

As the game inched closer to half Drury started to look a little dangerous on the long ball through to Kayla McGrath, who found herself hitting the post on a chance one on one with the keeper. It seemed they were going to try and get back in this game with their speed cutting open the backline of Hoosac. Hoosac Valley went into the break leading 2-0.

 

Just like the end of the first half, the second half saw McGrath in on goal once again, and just like the first time she hit the post and went wide. 

 

Play continued to go back and forth for a better potion of the half before McGrath finally not be denied. Elli Miles set her up this time with a nice through ball up the right side, and this time McGrath buried it in the back of the net to bring Drury within a goal. 

 

This was a wakeup call for Hoosac and they answered in the best way possible. Sydni Jamros found her third goal just two minutes after they conceded on a nice pass from Annie Canales to bring that lead back to two goals. This seemed to deflate Drury as Hoosac went on to control the game with unselfish play trying to set teammates up for that next goal and although it never came, Drury never seemed to threaten the rest of the game.

 

It was a long week for Drury, losing its first three, but the Blue Devils showed signs of positivity for the upcoming season. 

 

“We are a resilient group, It wasn’t hard to motivate them to keep plugging away. We had a couple shots go off the post and couple go wide so we had some opportunities.” Drury coach Maria Bartini said. “We’re growing with each game we play. We played three games in a four day period against good opponents so I’m proud with how we have played given the schedule.”

 

Drury will regroup and play Tuesday against Mount Greylock in hopes to find that first win of the season. As for Hoosac Valley, it will go up against Monument Mountain the same day.
