SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Junior Jennifer Gale and sophomore Marissa Felter each scored goals midway though the second half, helping the Hoosac Valley girls' soccer team pull away for a 3-0 win at Mount Everett on Tuesday.

After a relatively slow first half in which the Hurricanes (10-3) only scored one goal on 17 shots, Gale came up with a beautiful finish off of pass from senior Danielle Beauchemin from the flank. Gale used a full-volley shot to find the back of the net, giving Hoosac a 2-0 lead halfway through the second half. Five minutes later, Felter put the game away by knocking in a ball sent across the face of the goal by eighth grader Lily Kronick.

"It was a slow game in the first half, but we came out stronger in the second half," Hurricanes head coach Blair Mahar said. "Overall, we dominated the game, moved the ball beautifully across the field but found it tough to find the net with seven or eight Everett girls in the box."

Eagles' goalie Sam Hoover kept her team in the match by making 18 saves. She nearly kept Hoosac scoreless in the first half had it not been for a goal by Beauchemin in the 26th minute. Beauchemin's 11th tally of the year was set up by a well-placed through ball from freshman Abby Chaput.

Sophomore Megan Richardson needed to make just two saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season in goal for the Hurricanes, who kept pace with Mount Greylock in the South Division standings with the win.

Hoosac next plays at Lee at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
