DALTON, Mass. -- Brodie Calvert and Olivia Gamberoni were triple winners on Tuesday to lead the Wahconah boys and girls track and field teams to dual meet wins over Hoosac Valley.

Calvert edged the Hurricanes’ Zachary Hubbard by just more than a second to win the 800 meters on the track and took first in the long jump and the triple jump in the pit.

Gamberoni won the 200 meters, 400 meters and triple jump.

Not bad for a freshman making her first foray into track and field.

“Sometimes I go on runs just for fun, but I think sports like basketball and soccer have helped me stay in shape,” said Gamberoni, who helped Wahconah post perfect seasons in both soccer and basketball this year.

“This is my first year doing track. I did lacrosse maybe four years ago, but I just didn’t think it was for me. Track helps me stay in shape for my other sports. But if I really like this, I might want to do it in college or something.”

Tuesday marked Gamberoni’s second three-win day in two dual meet outings this spring.

In the 200, she clocked a time of 26.80 seconds to edge Hoosac Valley’s Lilly Boudreau (27.51). In the 400, Gamberoni’s 1:02.84 was more than 10 seconds ahead of the field.

Gamberoni’s triple jump mark of 31 feet, 8-½ inches was just more than a foot better than teammate and runner-up Quinn Walton (30-8-¼).

She helped the Wahconah girls edge Hoosac Valley in the team competition by a margin of 72-60.

Wahconah’s boys won their dual meet, 87-44.

Calvert hit the tape in 2:17.37 to win the 800 ahead of Hoosac’s Hubbard (2:18.06). Calvert’s long jump of 19-2-¾ was nearly two feet better than runner-up Nicholas Alibozek (17-4) of Hoosac Valley. In the triple jump, Alibozek (35-10-½) came closer, but Calvert prevailed with a mark of 36-8-¾.

Wahconah’s boys got a pair of wins from Brennan Anderson in the 110 hurdles (19.16) and 400 hurdles (1:05.72). Zander Walton swept the 100 (12.10) and 200 (25.61) for Wahconah.

Hoosac Valley got a pair of wins from Hubbard, who took the javelin with a throw of 12-11 that was 37 feet ahead of runner-up Ethan Hayes (91-10) of Wahconah) and the high jump, clearing 5-4.

The Hurricanes also got two wins from Justin Levesque. He edged Wahconah’s Riley Gladu by just more than three seconds, 5:01.81 to 5:04.47 in the 1600 meters. Levesque won the 3200 by nearly a minute, finishing in 11:05.04.

Levesque said he is still working his way into top form on the track on the heels of Nordic sk and track seasons the last four months.

“I’m trying to get back into the 4:40s [for the mile],” Levesque said. “I think that will come soon. Saturday’s meet will be a fast race. I’m hoping to PR by at least a good 15 seconds. Taconic is going to be fast. The two-mile was also a PR, but this was my second time running it since freshman year, and my PR that year was 11:22, I think. … I’m hoping to get down into the 10:30s soon.

“I’m starting to change gears from cross country to track. It’s going to take two more weeks, I’d say, to get back to full track shape because I’m used to running slow for long, and now I have to run fast for a short distance. It’s the complete opposites, but I’m hoping to get to my goals this season.”

For the Hoosac Valley girls, Boudreau was a double winner, taking the long jump in 15-0-½ and the 400 hurdles in 1:09.95.
