BUCKLAND, Mass. -- Hoosac Valley senior Jared Haley this weekend earned the Nate Hale Award for the Outstanding Male Athlete at the Western Massachusetts Division 2 track and field meet at Mohawk Trail Regional High School.

The award is presented by the Western Massachusetts Track and Field Officials Association in recognition of an athlete who displays good sportsmanship, is a leader on his team and represents himself and his school in a positive manner.

“It’s a great accomplishment for Jared and something that he is very deserving of after his six years of track and field and demonstrating extraordinary sportsmanship on a daily basis,” Hoosac Valley coach Dayne Poirot said.

Haley and his Hoosac teammate Peter Barrow were among five nominees for the award, named for former Mohawk Trail coach Nate Hale.
