UPDATE: Georgetown University junior Scott Carpenter is one of six Hoyas who Friday night qualified for the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships.

Carpenter, a graduate of Lenox Memorial, ran a time of 8 minutes, 40.14 seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Friday's East Preliminary meet in Jacksonville, Fla.

The NCAA Championships are scheduled for June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.

Berkshire County has a rooting interest in Sunday’s NCAA Division II Baseball Championships that get under way on Sunday.

Hoosac Valley alumnus Tanner Bird’s Franklin Pierce Ravens are among eight teams competing for a national title in Cary, N.C.

Bird, a senior relief pitcher for the Ravens, has made one appearance so far in the NCAA tournament, throwing 3-⅓ innings in a win over St. Thomas Aquinas in the East Regional.

Bird, who is scheduled to return to the area this summer for the North Adams SteepleCats in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, recently was featured in the publication New England Baseball Journal.

Taconic graduates Steve Witkowski and Alex Carusotto helped the UMass-Boston baseball team earn the first at-large bid in program history to the NCAA Divison III tournament, and the Beacons went 2-2 in the Mid-Atlantic Regional after falling short in the Little East tournament.

Carusotto appeared on the mound in nine games, and Witkowski took the hill eight times this spring for the Beacons.

A third Taconic alumnus at UMass-Boston, Dominic Nda, is making his first appearance at the NCAA Division III track and field championships on Friday. Nda, who qualified in the 100 meters with a time of 10.66 seconds, was named an all-region selection by the  U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association earlier this week.

Brett McCormack and the St. Lawrence University men’s lacrosse team saw their season come to an end in the national semifinals of the Division III tournament, where the Saints lost to Tufts, 23-11, last weekend in Medford, Mass.

McCormack, a Mount Greylock graduate, finished his junior season with 12 goals and nine assists in 20 games for St. Lawrence.

The McCormack family was denied a chance for a brother-vs.-brother battle earlier in the NCAA tournament when Michael McCormack and the Middlebury Panthers dropped an 11-10 decision to Springfield in the first round. St. Lawrence went on to beat the Pride in the second round.

Michael McCormack had a goal and three assists in 15 games for Middlebury this spring.
