Wahconah Athletes Finish Strong at Sectional Pentathlon

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Wahconah's Jack Pudlo and Shea McIlquham finished second and third on Thursday in the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 pentathlon championship at Westfield State College.
 
On the girls side in the sectional pentathlon, Wahconah's Hailey Pickard finished third.
 
Pudlo finished with 2,726 points to place second behind Murdock High's Adam Digman (2,913).
 
Pudlo won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:33.07.
 
McIlquham finished first in the event's long jump competition with a mark of 5.94 meters (19 feet, 6 inches).
 
Nine boys competed in the the pentathlon, the first event of the Central/Western Mass Championships that will be contested on Saturday at Westfield State.
 
With their showings, Pudlo and McIlquham gave Wahconah 14 points in the team standings heading into Saturday's competition.
 
The girls pentathlon champion was Pope Francis' Alexandra Gonet, who amassed 3,116 points.
 
Pickard finished with 2,375 points to finish third and claim six team points.
 
Aryianna Garceau (1,358) also competed for Wahconah.
