Klem Finishes Sixth at All-State Meet

FITCHBURG, Mass. -- Wahconah's Eric Klem finished sixth in the mile run at the MIAA All-State Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
 
Klem finished in a time of 4 minutes, 21.45 seconds. The event was won by Marblehead's Andrew Erns in 4:15.85.
 
The Berkshire County contingent at the All-State meet picked up a couple of top 10 finishes in the jumps: Hoosac Valley's Trevor Ciempa was ninth in the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches), and Wahconah's Maddie Sprague was ninth in the long jump (17-3.75).
 
Klem also ran a leg on Wahconah's 23rd place 4-by-400 relay team (3:33.28) along with Dalton Hill, Jeff Pullano and Matthew Lighten, and Klem  finished 22nd in the 800 meters (2:02.02).
 
The boys 800 on Saturday at Fitchburg State also featured Hill and Drury's Connor Meehan, who finished 15th and 18th, repsectively.
 
In the boys 110 hurdles, Pittsfield's Josh Bonny just missed out on the finals, recording the 11th fastest time in the prelims, 15.21 seconds. Taconic's Evan Kalinowsky was 14th in the javelin with a throw of 152-5.
 
Lenox's Tucker McNinch placed 15th in the 3200 meters (9:48.85), and Mount Greylock's Carter Stripp was 23rd in the mile (4:38.53).
 
Lenox's boys 4-by-800 relay quartet placed 19th with a time of 8:23.8 behind the efforts of McNinch, Sam Darbey, Chris Najimy and Philippe Mortelliti.
 
Lenox's girls were 18th in the 4-by-800 (10:02.76) and 21st in the 4-by-400 (4:09.18). The 4-by-800 quartet included Emily Tibbetts, Alice Najimy, Maggie Sorrentino and Emma Jourdain. Representing Lenox in the 4-by-400 were Amber Shove, Sorrentino, Tova Brown and Shannon Meisberger.
 
On her own, Shove finished 21st in the 400 with a time of 1:01.78.
 
Mount Greylock eighth-grader Maddie Albert placed 23rd in the 800 (2:22.82), and the Mounties' 4-by-800 relay (Ella Dudley, Niku Darafshi, Margo Smith and Laura Galib) finished 23rd in a time of 10:09.83.
