Moncechhi Second in Pentathlon at Regional

BOLTON, Mass. -- Wahconah senior Gianna Moncecchi placed second in the pentathlon Thursday as the MIAA Central/Western Massachusetts Divison 2 Championships got under way.
 
The majority of the events will be contested on Saturday at Fitchburg State University. On Thursday, the boys and girls pentathlons were held at Nashoba Regional High School.
 
Moncecchi finished with 2,697 points to finish behind Oakmont's Tess Rembetsy-Brown, who amassed 2,782 points.
 
Wahconah's Lily Pudlo reached the podium as well, finishing fifth in the 12-girl field with 2,232 points.
 
Moncecchi and Pudlo each won an event in the five-event discipline.
 
Moncecchi won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 34.19 seconds, beating Rembetsy-Brown by about half a second.
 
Pudlo and Moncecchi were part of a five-way tie in the high jump. The winners cleared 4 feet, 7.5 inches.
 
Moncecchi was the runner up in the long jump (15-11.5) and placed third in the 100 hurdles (16.68).
 
In the boys pentathlon, Mike Hruby placed sixth with 1,558 points. That event was won in a runaway by Littleton's Hunter Gray, who compiled 3,200 points after winning all five events.
 
Hruby's best finish came in the shot put, where he posted a mark of 35-6.5; Gray won the event with a toss of 38-5.
