Monument Mountain Girls, Boys Post Cross Country Wins

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Eliza Philip placed second in leading the Monument Mountain girls cross country team to a narrow victory over Wahconah on Saturday.
 
Philip finished in 21 minutes, 58.07 seconds, more than a minute behind winner Haley Crosier (20:47.77).
 
Wahconah took three of the top four places with Jacelyn Sommers and Quinn Walton taking third and fourth, respectively.
 
But Monument Mountain grabbed the next six places, starting with Ruby Citron in fifth, to take the dual meet by a score of 28-32 and improve to 4-0-1 this fall.
 
In the boys race, the Spartans cruised behind a 1-2-3 finish from Peter LaRochelle (16:48.54), Keegan Leach and Diego Salinetti.
 
Wahconah's Alexander Perenick (18:16.31) had the third fastest time.
 
But Myles Gennari and Andrew McCarthey placed fifth and eighth, respectively, to give Monument Mountain a 19-36 win.
 
Monument Mountain goes to Mount Everett next Saturday while Wahconah hosts Mount Greylock.

Mount Greylock Boys, Girls Win
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock boys and girls cross country teams each wrapped up the home portion of their schedule with perfect scores on Saturday.
 
In the boys race, Charles McWeeny led a sweep of the top five positions by finishing in 19:22.75 against Mount Everett.
 
McWeeney came home more than 40 seconds ahead of runner-up and teammate Ezra Holzapfel (20:04.13).
 
Benjamin Vella (24:38.56) placed 20th in a 35-runner field to pace the Eagles.
 
In the girls race, the Mounties got a winning run of 20:34.85 from Katherine Swann. She was chased across the finish by teammate Jacqueline Wells, who finished in 21:30.80.
 
Rochelle Worth (32:42.72) led Mount Everett, which did not enter enough girls to post a team score.
